Garbage Pickup Information

CURBSIDE PICK UP – GARBAGE, TRASH AND RECYCLING

HOUSEHOLD GARBAGE:

  1. Household garbage will be picked up on Monday after 8:00 AM.
  2. Household garbage should be placed on the curb at the front of your house before 8:00 AM on the morning of pick up – not the night before.  Bags should not weigh more than 40 pounds each.
  3. Household garbage should be packaged in a plastic bag, tied and placed in a trash container secured with a lid.
  4. Town employees will not pick up broken bags and will not clean up spilled out garbage.

YARD TRASH:

  1. Leaves and/or small branches must be bagged.  Limbs must be cut to 4ft lengths and stacked neatly at the curb for pick up.  Large yard debris will require a special pick-up & cost.  Call Town Hall for information.
  2. If a resident hires a tree company to cut down a tree on their property, it will be the responsibility of the resident or the tree company to haul off all debris.

RECYCLABLES:

  1. All recyclables must be bagged and will be picked up the same day as regular trash.

ITEMS THAT ARE CONSIDERED “RECYCLABLE” AND WILL BE PICKED UP:

  1. Plastic, Beverage, and Detergent bottles with screw on tops, along with throw-away lids and neck rings.  Containers should be rinsed out.
  2. Metal cans (steel, tin or aluminum) food or beverage containers.
  3. Newspapers, magazines, phone books, catalogs, and corrugated cardboard.            
  4. Cardboard must be broken down, flattened, or cut to approximately 2’x3′ pieces.
  5. Glass bottles and jars with throw-away lids.  Containers should be rinsed out.

ITEMS THAT ARE NOT CONSIDERED “RECYCLABLE” AND WILL NOT BE PICKED UP:

  1. Antifreeze, oil or pesticide containers.
  2. Broken glass, mirrors, ceramics, clay pots, light bulbs, window glass, oven-ware,   drinking glasses, or auto glass.
  3. Fuel, paint, oil, aerosol cans, or batteries.
  4. Pizza boxes, junk mail, or paperboard (i.e. shirt, shoe or cereal boxes).
  5. OTHER: See reverse side for further explanation and special pick up costs.

NOTE:  Any item not ordinary residential trash will be picked up ONLY if arrangements are made in advance.  Costs for disposal of those items will be the responsibility of the resident.

SPECIAL PICK UP COSTS AND EXPLANATIONs
Any item not ordinary residential trash, such as Household Furnishings and Appliances that weigh over forty (40) pounds per item are considered “Special Pick-up” trash, and can be picked up and transported to the Clay County Landfill, ONLY if advance arrangements have been made.

A $50.00 service fee for handling “Special Pick-up” trash will be assessed at the time of pick up and be charged at the next utility billing.

The utility customer is responsible for and will also be billed for any and all costs of “Special Pick-up” trash that the Town of Penney Farms takes to the landfill.  The customers may be provided a weight ticket dated at time of transfer to the landfill.  These weight charges will be charged at the next utility billing.

  • Please be aware that the Town has a Solid Waste Franchise Fee in place. This means if you have a need for a roll off container or a dumpster, at your residence, you may only use the following companies:
